Andy Dalton had one of the most impressive rookie seasons a QB has had coming out of the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Only Cam Newton out-shined Dalton, who made the Pro-Bowl during his rookie campaign. What makes Dalton unique, is his ability to get the ball out of his hands quickly on almost every passing down. Most QB's learning a new system in a lockout shortened season wouldn't have adjusted as quickly as Dalton did, but he lead a relatively under-maned Bengals team to the playoffs. Expectations will be high for Dalton for the remainder of his career. Fans in Cincinnati have been waiting for a winning team for decades - and with the talents of A.J. Green at wide receiver, many expect the Bengals to be a winning franchise in the years to come. During the 2011 NFL season, fans started to see that Dalton was for real - and started paying more & more for his autograph RC cards as the season went on. Much of the fan-fare was centered around higher draft picks like Jake Locker, Blaine Gabbert and Cam Newton, however as the season wore on, collectors appreciated Dalton's play and he became one of the more sought after cards. His rookies sometimes sell for more than A.J. Green who was also in the Pro-Bowl and a much higher draft pick. Goes to show you that there usually a QB 'premium' & the value of their cards will often go up & down more than other players. Keep in mind, Dalton has lots of parallel cards - and in some cases like Prestige & Topps Chrome - he has a base card, and an autograph card. This list should be a good starting point for you when collecting his cards from 2011. |
