Lots of people think about setting up a card store, especially with how easy it is to setup an eBay account or online website these days. With Panini & Upper Deck limiting the number of 'authorized' online sellers, and in some cases delaying products release for 1 week (so hobby shops get a window to sell) selling Topps products seems to be the entry method for new sellers. While I wouldn't call this list 'official' (whatever that means) -- I would say that it gives you a good idea what the cases are selling for over/above a standard wholesale/distributor price. Keep in mind, this is a year end (December 2011) snapshot of prices. It's easily possible that these cases/boxes sold for more (or less) when the product went live. Another thing to keep in mind - this is profit before fees & taxes. When I was selling stuff on eBay - fees can be 20% or more off the top. That drastically reduces your profits and enhances losses. |

As you can see, it's tough to make money. Thinking you can pick the winners/losers from this list and pre-order for 2012 is like saying you can do the same in the Stock Market, or Sports Betting...and in both cases you have more data than selling Topps Baseball boxes. I do point out some winners (Series 1 & Heritage) but even these sets have flopped many times. Also, as a dealer standpoint, you want to 'stock everything' ... and as you can see, that can lead to some big loses. They essentially wipe out your gains from the more collectible sets. I would recommend trying to build up a 'pre-order' base of customers, as the cases that are selling for a loss in December probably sold for a profit on pre-order before release. You might not make as much on Tribute or Gypsy Queen - but you'll loose less on the weaker product. Also you can order extra stock of Series 1, Heritage or Bowman Jumbos if you think they'll do well after they go live (and maybe limit the pre-orders on these sets). |

2011-12 NBA Basketball Cards NBA Card Spotlight Cards selected by Sports Card Radio Forum Members! The NBA is back December 25, 2011 |
|
|
|
| Basketball fans rejoiced around the world in late November when the lockout between the leagues owners and players finally was resolved in late hour negotiations. The exciting 2010-11 NBA Finals between the Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat seems like a distant memory and overall, the lockout greatly impacted the sales of basketball trading cards. The exclusive maker of NBA licensed cards, Panini America, halted operations of all b-ball cards during the standoff - whereas normally several sets would have already hit the market by December 1st. Cards that exploded in value last year - like Blake Griffin Rookie cards and rare Dirk Nowitzki cards - have softened in price considerably and it will remain to be seen if there is any hangover from the shortened 11-12 season with card collectors. Leading up to the start of the new basketball season, members of the Sports Card Radio Fan Forum were given an opportunity to select the card they thought would go up in value the most this season. There were no restrictions and they were free to choose any current or former player in the league. But they had to be specific on which card they thought would rise in value and give insight into why they thought this year was the year to cash in. Here are the results - if you have any player on your radar feel free to shoot us an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. |

| 1992-93 NBA Hoops Basketball #442 Shaquille O'Neal RC - PSA 10
Forum Member: StealSecond StealSecond took cues from Show #86 where Colin talked about how the value of Shaquille O'Neal cards still have room to go up. Shaq will be on TV a lot this year and perhaps old Laker fans who still carry a grudge will soften their stance when the Big Diesel gets his jersey retired soon. |

| 2010-11 Panini National Treasures Jordan Crawford Rookie Patch Auto
Forum Member: jkbball Jordan Crawford made waves during the off-season when he said something to the effect "I don't like to talk about it, but I think I can be better then MICHAEL Jordan." Crawford does not lack confidence and can score the rock at will. He is a favorite of Sports Card Show host Colin. Expect Crawford's card prices to rise if he gets off to a hot start. |

One of the most athletic young players in the league, Demar is looking to assert himself this year as a stud. He had a fantastic season in 10-11 when he averaged 17.2 points per game. It's shocking this autograph can be found on eBay for less then $5 delivered. Wow. |

Will he ever put it all together and become a star? Much like Teague - it takes guys awhile to figure things out. Randolph could be a Lamar Odom type of player with potentially more upside. |

| Randall Cobb WR/KR Drafted: 2nd Round #64 - 2011 College: Kentucky Randall Cobb took advantage of the national spotlight by returning a kickoff for 108 yards against the New Orleans Saints - in addition to catching 2 passes for 35 yards and another TD. Cobb showed miraculous balance on the kick return when he got upended - but remained on his feet by doing a barrel roll, he then ran the rest of the way for a TD. During an ESPN interview Friday morning, Cobb said he "ran the wrong route" on his TD catch during the game Thursday. After the big kick return, sales of Randall Cobb's new 2011 Rookie Cards produced by Panini America and Topps exploded upward. As you can see from the example below, prices soared to over 100% the fair market prices for most of his current rookie cards. If you have any Cobb rookie cards, now would be the best time to sell because he probably won't be making spectacular plays week in and week out. He is buried on the Packers depth chart behind receivers Greg Jennings, Donald Diver and Jordy Nelson. If you like Cobb, you'll most likely have a chance to buy the same card back at a much cheaper price later on in the season. |
