Take a look back:
2011 Rookie Premiere Photo Shoot

2013 Rookie Premiere Photo Shoot

The 2012 NFL Rookie Premiere Photo Shoot is by far the single most important event all year for trading card manufactures like Panini and Topps to obtain not only photographs of 2012 rookies in new NFL Nike uniforms, but also get autographs and event worn jerseys from all of the 35 attending players. Just about every major card set produced by Topps and Panini in 2012 will feature cards that originated from this event.  All 35 players will have the opportunity to sign and appear in both sets. Look for no athlete to sign an exclusive contract with either company. There is some misconception that Robert Griffin III and/or Andrew Luck would only be in Panini or Topps products. RGIII and Luck will appear in all Topps AND Panini sets with autographs, and event worn jerseys in both companies products. Look for every other player to also sign cards and wear jerseys for each company. The NFLPA wants both of their "partners" in Panini and Topps to have a fair shot at player contracts and probably discourage players from signing exclusive deals - especially rookie players.

All year Sports Card Radio will be putting up full checklists of each 2012 Football product by Panini and Topps. You can access those and other card checklists here.  Many of the early products like Panini Prestige, Topps Inception and Bowman Signatures will heavily feature cards from this photo shoot. But in reality, just about every product in the 2012 cycle has some sort of cards that derived from the 2012 NFL photo shoot.

The NFLPA does an incredible job at putting on this event and it's crucial for these card companies because it gives them access to 35 top rookies all in one place. The MLB and NBA do not have players associations that cater to the card companies like the NFLPA does for Panini and Topps. Fans of football cards should feel fortunate that the league does care and will spend a great deal of money putting on the 2012 event. This year there are no defensive players attending the premiere. For me, I like that, but I can see why some collectors would want certain defensive players invited to the event. Take a look at the players going - and also check back often from May 17-20 as we will update this page with many more pictures and additional information.

Be very careful when choosing teams for "box breaks" if you participate in those. Use this guide to help you select teams. If you've been buying football cards the last few years you know that many of the "hits" that come in boxes are of Photo Shoot rookie players. Notice the teams that have zero players attending the event: Bears, Chargers, Cheifs, Cowboys, Falcons, Packers, Patriots, Raiders, and Steelers. Now take a look at a product like 2012 Topps Inception Football - if this product stays true to it's 2011 form - ALL of the "hits" will be of the rookies featured at the photo shoot. Meaning besides base cards and the parallels available off of that, there will be no "veteran hits" in the product. So teams like the Patriots, Steelers and Cowboys in a box break would be a horrible purchase unless Topps adds veteran autographs and game used cards.

16the Annual Tristar San Francisco Show

Not long ago most companies were laying off people and looking to cut costs, now with the economy slowly picking up steam, we're seeing more job openings in the sports card industry than ever before.

That's good news if you collect cards + need a job!

Like many open jobs across the country today, only a small percentage of people that apply are even qualified for the job. Some of these jobs listed below require you to have an education - but if you have no knowledge of cards, it would be almost impossible to get hired. Therefore, if you have a blog, comment on forums or generally know a lot about cards - you can use that in your resume & it will actually help you get hired.

Just a quick scan around the industry yields these job openings:

Open Jobs at Panini America

FT - Customer Service Manager

Don't think you get a good response when you ask about your Kobe Bryant redemption? Think Panini could streamline the process so they actually get less call and make customers happier? This is the job for you.

FT - Business Analyst

You're going to need a degree in finance/accounting to land this job ... and it has far less to do with cards as it has to do with numbers. If you're a number cruncher - this is for you.

Open Jobs at Topps

FT - Logistics Analysis

Similar to the Panini Business Analyst, you're in charge of making sure things stay on budget so everyone can feed their families at night. Die-hard collectors probably wouldn't be great at this job - as you'd be cutting things out to make the numbers look better & the products less collectible to the consumer.

FT - Project Manager

Unlike logistics, this is the perfect job for a die-hard collector. You'd be in charge of an entire product line & making sure it pleases collectors. Extensive knowledge of Topps products would help you land this job.

Open Jobs at Upper Deck

FT - Collectible/Toys Brand Manager

Pretty interesting job not closely related to cards, but toys might be a far less complex market to break into if you don't have sports card experience.

Designer/Senior Designer

I hear a lot about how people don't like how cards look these days. With a little practice on PhotoShop & and an art design degree ... you'll be well on your way to creating beautiful works of art that collectors will love.

E-Commerce Marketing Specialist

Maybe you started your own online store & things didn't work out too well ... that's okay because your experience might help you in this job. Selling directly to consumers is what the companies should do more of, and you'll have your chance to make that happen in this job.

Redemption Clerk

Think the companies don't do a good job with redemptions? Here is your chance to make a difference and make some money.

Redemptions Supervisor

You know redemption cards are a big deal when the company actually has a title for the supervisor. My guess is you could really make some head-way in this segment of the business, as no company handles redemptions like they could (or should).

UDA Production Clerk

This job puts you on the front lines of making sure the process of getting an item to be signed is handled as smoothly as possible. This would be a pretty fun job.

UDA Distributor Account Manager

Here you're building relationships with other retailers to see how you can sell them more UDA products. If you have some close ties in the retail world, this would be an excellent choice.

Open Jobs At COMC

Office Assistant

Basically you're filling up coffee and making sure the ink in the printer is filled.

Order Fulfillment Clerk

Ever wonder how the cards get shipped to you when you buy off COMC? This job is the reason why you're cards arrive, and it would probably be an interesting job.

Trading Card Identification Specialist

Sounds like the most interesting job in the house. Identify cards = you must be a collector.

Release Date: December 20, 2011

5 Cards Per Box
5 Autographs Per Pack

110 Factory Sealed Cases Produced
12 Boxes Per Case
Buyback Signed Cards

Leaf has been on a buying spree - and inside each Leaf Ink Baseball pack will be 4 autographs of previously signed cards. Presumably these will be cards produced by mainstream manufactures such as Topps, Panini and Upper Deck. All of the cards will be autographed and authenticated by PSA/DNA or JSA (James Spence Authentication). One card per box will be a themed 1/1 cut signature card from one of five subsets. Leaf will probably not release too much product information from this set because of a lawsuit filed by Topps regarding using images of their cards to promote their (Leaf) products.
