| The Astros major league team may be struggling - but that doesn't mean all hope is lost. Quite the opposite actually as their high A affiliate the Lancaster Jethawks won the 2012 Cal League Championship. I got a look at quite a few of their top prospects over the last couple years including Domingo Santana, Delino DeShields Jr, George Springer and Jonathan Singleton. All four are exciting players and could reach the major leagues at about the same time if all goes well. Not to mention they recently picked Carlos Correa #1 in the 2012 MLB Draft so I'm hopeful I will get a look at him in the next couple years as well. Recently the Houston Astros hired Kevin Goldstein as their Pro Scouting Coordinator which is great for him and the Astros.......... but it does mean my favorite baseball podcast 'Up & In' will no longer be around. Sad day for prospect fans but great for Goldstein and the 'stros. |

I purchase a fair share of cards on Check Out My Cards and other websites and recently I got a bunch of 2012 Bowman Baseball autographs including some rare ones. One being an Andrew Susac Orange Refrector Autograph #/25. I've seen Andrew play in person a lot recently and he always hits the ball hard and ends up having a good game. Although for the season he is only hitting around .240 so I hope by me purchasing one of his autographs it will bring him good luck even when I don't get to see him play. One of Susac's teammates on the Giants, Tommy Joseph is also a catcher and I saw him play quite often during the 2011 season. It is exciting for Giants fans to have two young catchers to look forward to even when they have a star in Buster Posey already on the big league team. Too many catchers is never a bad problem to have. In the stack of Bowman cards I bought there was a Joseph refractor autograph #/500. In total I got about 15-20 different autographs from the Bowman set, the most rare being a 1/1 printing plate autograph of Nick Delmonico. Never seen him play but the price was right. At the end of this short episode I talk about two players I've seen that need some cards in Bowman. Josh Whitaker of the Oakland A's and Anthony Meo of the Arizona Diamondbacks. |

| Reds top prospect Billy Hamilton was back in Stockton for a four game series and he was doing what he always does - running. In total, Hamilton stole 80 bases in the first half of the Cal League season. A feat that has gotten the attention of prospect watchers across the land. For three days I stuck a camera in front of Billy's face and got a wave out of the speedster who hardly ever is standing still. Out of seven podcasts, this is the second one just about Billy Hamilton - so if you can't tell by now he is an exciting player to watch and it's also fun to ponder his future in baseball. Here is the link to the first podcast from a series in April which was the first time I saw Hamilton play. This time around I took extra care in observing his demeanor on the diamond and I talk about that in depth in the recent episode. I even busted out my video camera and got footage of him at the plate and on the bases running. |
