Day #2 At The Industry Summit
In Las Vegas, NV
Monday March 18, 2012
Monday is almost the official kick-off day for the Industry Summit. It’s a day filled with different presentations and meetings with manufactures, distributors and more industry folks.
Below is a quick summary of some of the things that went on.
7:30 AM to 8:30 AM: Leaf Trading Cards
Seemed to be entertaining. Brian Gray didn’t seem at all concerned about licenses that leagues charge for logos and branding. Later in the day Topps signed an exclusive deal to make licensed baseball cards through 2020.
8:30 to 9:15 AM:Â COMC.com – Beckett and more talked about how they can help sellers reach a broader group. Beckett provides services such as Grading, Authentication, Marketplace, Database and more. COMC offers a way for anyone to ship cards to the COMC warehouse and buy/sell online via their website.
9:30 AM to 12:30 PM – The Show Floor Is Open
1:30 – 2:30 The Big Break – Box Breakers who are attending the Industry Summit will give their take on how this segment has increased it’s market over the last few years.
This kinda got kind of salty between the breakers on stage. Some of the struggles in the industry include self policing, or a way to know which breakers are honest people. Panini has thought about having “Authorized Breakers”
4:00PM Mosaiq Research releases more data they gathered from a survey of sports card buyers.
