LINSANITY took over in early February 2012, and turned what used to be $.25 – $20 cards, into a big bucks bonanza. Lin’s base 10-11 Panini Prestige rookie cards, a fairly easy pull out of a box or pack, were selling for $20-40, while his autograph rookies climbed to staggering, several thousand dollar price tags. A mix of good fortune and marketability sent card prices for Jeremy Lin cards soaring into the stratosphere. Undrafted out of Harvard, Lin spent time on the Golden State Warriors bench during the 2010-11 NBA season. Cut loose from the Warriors, Lin signed with the New York Knicks and when he got his chance, he put up huge numbers and captivated a nation.
Panini was the exclusive makers of NBA licensed trading cards in 2010-11 and the sports collecting world is lucky to have an inventory of Lin cards to select and profit from. Many un-drafted players do not appear in many sets, or don’t have cards at all. Credit Panini for getting Lin into the sets well before the Linsanity struck. His top card is unquestionably any of his Playoff National Treasures autographs, and bidding for some got as high as $20,000 on some un-confirmed sales on eBay.
