2010 Razor Rookie Retro Box Preview

2010 Razor Rookie Retro
Release Date: August 30, 2010
1 ‘Buy Back’ Graded Card Per Box
6 Boxes Per Case

2010 Razor Rookie Retro is one of the more ambitious product releases in the companies short history. According to the owner of Razor, Brian Gray, the company has been spending hundreds of thousands of dollars buying back popular graded rookie cards on eBay for the past several months. To cap off Razor’s buying spree, Gray himself cut a check for $21,403.00 to Robert Power, to purchase the 2010 Bowman Chrome Stephen Strasburg Superfractor 1/1. The Strasburg Superfractor will now be inserted into 2010 Razor Rookie Retro allowing collectors another chance to pull what Razor calls “the single most media frenzied trading card of the 21st century.” Power originally purchased the Strasburg Superfractor on eBay for $16,403.00 a month before selling it to Razor.

Razor Rookie Retro is an ultra high end, 1 pack 1 hit, product that will be either hit or miss. There will be several big hits available, but there will be a lot of filler cards that will not be worth the three figure Rookie Retro pack price. Be cautious when buying this product, and make sure you monitor which hits have been pulled by visiting the popular sports card forums and also checking eBay for cards that hit auction. If the Strasburg Superfractor and a few other big hits get pulled shortly after release, then you may want to save your money to gamble on something else.

UPDATE 7.11.2010
: For more information on this set, be sure to read the thread over at the Blowout Cards Forum. On page 4 of the thread, a forum member notes that: In addition to the graded card per box, each and every box will contain a 2010 Razor signed card never before released of one of our exclusive players. I will continue to post information as it becomes available for this product. Razor is notoriously slow for posting checklists, so I will see if I can get one out of them. Feel free to email me: sportscardshow@gmail.com if you have any additional information to provide.

UPDATE 8.18.2010: Scheduled release date is 8/30/2010. Still NO checklist. How you expect people to spend $250+ on a product with a handful of ‘big hit’ pictures is beyond me. It’s a rare day around here when we give our opinion to buy or not buy a product. It’s your money. It’s your collection. But I would advise staying away from this product unless the price comes way down or a COMPLETE checklist is released that is spectacular (edit: checklist looks good – nice work by Razor).  Razor is also now Leaf………. except the baseball line…….. yep it’s real confusing.

UPDATE 8.21.2010: If you have that gamble in you and will be busting this product feel free to send me your YouTube video or forum thread and I will gladly link it up for you. sportscardshow@gmail.com

UPDATE 8.25.2010: Wait just a second!!! Supposedly a checklist will be released tomorrow. It will probably be in wonderful PDF format, so I will get it up as quickly as I can. I will still post some YouTube vids and forum threads so that you can check some of those out on 8/30.

UPDATE 8.26.2010: Updating this page now with checklist. Here is the PDF version on the Leaf Trading Cards website. Checklist appears strong. Be sure to check out the thread over on the Freedom Cardboard Forum where Razor/Leaf owner Brian Gray talks about the set.

UPDATE 8.26.2010: It might take me a couple days to put a non-pdf checklist together. I should have it done by the release date. If anyone wants an excel version I will have one of those when I am all done. Email us at sportscardshow@gmail.com and I can send it to you. I use an ‘open source’ version of excel called Open Office, but it should upload to your Microsoft Excel if that’s what you are using. Or if you’d like, you’ll be able to copy and paste it off this site, hopefully fairly easily, to your own notepad or excel document. Here is the PDF version on the Leaf Trading Cards website until I can put this all together.

Update 9.2.2010: The checklist here is a work in progress, check the PDF version if you need to look at the whole thing. Here are a few good threads with links to video and scans of cards from box breaks of 2010 Razor Rookie Retro:
