Living in California has it’s perks – one being February baseball and I was fortunate to get to see the #2 rated team in the country, Stanford, play a thrilling extra innings game in Stockton, CA. Projected #1 MLB draft pick Mark Appel did not pitch, but he did sign autographs for fans and I talk about that on the show. Got some good looks at several of Stanford’s top hitting prospects, Kenny Diekroeger, Tyler Gaffney, Stephen Piscotty and sophomore Austin Wilson.
Then I blabber on about my opportunities to see San Francisco Giants #1 prospect Gary Brown. He is a center fielder who is one of the fastest players in minor league baseball. Brown hit over .300, stole a ton of bases while leading the San Jose Giants to the best record in all the minors. I was very lucky to watch Brown play in person on a number of occasions and share some insight into his skills. Baseball America rates Brown as the #36 rated prospect in all of baseball.
Finally I wrap up the show by remembering one magical night by Rockies pitching prospect Chad Bettis. On this night it seemed like he struck out every Stockton Ports batter he faced. Baseball America rates Bettis as the #86 rated prospect in all of baseball.
