#1 — 2011 Topps Tribute Baseball Boxes
Current Box Price On eBay = $400.00+
Original Wholesale Price: $225.00
This set came out in early April, but has continued to be a hot seller for baseball card shops. The combination of 3 autograph relics per box + 3 additional jersey cards per box has this set selling for $400+ in most cases. It could have more to do with the supply of hobby boxes running dry, but this is one of the highest selling boxes in recent memory for Topps. 2010 Topps Tribute had Stephen Strasburg, Starlin Castro and Jason Heyward – but the big hits in 2011 include Hank Aaron, and 2001 Albert Pujols buy-back autographs.
#2 — 2011 Topps Series 1 Jumbo Boxes
Current Box Price On eBay = $140.00+
Original Wholesale Price: $80.25
Regular Topps always sells well, especially as it starts drying up. Set collectors, team and autograph collectors all bust each pack of this stuff each year as fast as they can. Hobby shops do well if they can keep it in stock, and even with Topps boosting production this year, Jumbo boxes still sell for much for than original wholesale price. Sellers beware, as Series 2 doesn’t always sell as well as Series 1 – but anyone that got in early with this product did well.
#3 — 2010 Bowman Sterling Baseball Boxes
Current Box Price On eBay = $295.00+
Original Wholesale Price: $225.00
This 2010 set actually came out in 2011, which is probably the reason why its among many best selling 2011 boxes, there is plenty of supply still left to have a good amount of sales. Jason Heyward has gotten off to a good start and his RC’s sell well within the set. Also selling well are Aroldis Chapman and Yasmani Grandal autograph cards, along with many other top prospects. A mostly prospect laden set, these boxes might continue to go up in price if the RC’s play well and unopened boxes dry up in collectors hands over time.
#4 — 2011 Topps Gypsy Queen Boxes
Current Box Price On eBay = $130.00+
Original Wholesale Price: $90.00
A brand new ‘set’ from Topps in 2011, and based on early sales – it appears to be a winner. Even with each box missing ‘guaranteed’ hits, collectors can redeem the UPC codes on the bottom of the box for replacements from Topps at a future date. The cards themselves aren’t anything special, but the price of boxes has taken off, due to lower quantities being available on the secondary market. Many collectors have had trouble finding the retail versions, making for a quick sell when you do find a box at a hobby store.
#5 — 2011 Topps Heritage Boxes
Current Box Price On eBay = $75.00+
Original Wholesale Price: $54.25
This one just squeaks onto the list thanks to 2011 Topps Triple Threads selling below original wholesale cost. This years Topps Heritage is about like any other year, except there are some cool coin cards that sell for decent money. The boxes are drying up as set collectors and on-card autograph hunters open packs. Retail versions have sold well, and are generally tough to find. With no series 2 or high numbers set in the works at the moment, Heritage fans should continue to buy these boxes until gone.
